Slaver’s Bounty: A Linerat’s Liberation Part II

He had looked high and low to get here. Many miles have fallen behind Tenderpaws since he took the field for his former owners in Stumptown. His daring escape after being injured during the Championship match at Doompeak did not go unnoticed and he knew it. Even through his injuries Tenderpaws had managed to escape during the carnage and mayhem of the last few moments of the Finals. Tenderpaws knew the Masters could not tolerate one of their prized stock escaping, it threatened to undermine the foundation of Stumptown’s wealth. Captain Bandlehoon himself would be furious, for it was he who took the chance on the sniveling rat and that betrayal cut deep. Matter not, Tenderpaws knew he could not run forever and needed sanctuary and an income if he was to ever live free or see any of his 13 children the Great Horned Rat had blessed him with.

After escaping Doompeak, Tenderpaws had gone team to team, city to city. Concealing his true identity , he tried out for any Blood Bowl team he could find seeking an income the best way he knew how. Small and large, rich and poor, he flashed his skills for every team just be turned away. Even when a tryout had gone well, the teams cut all the new players fearing the now rampant NZ virus could be imported into their locker room by any unknown commodity. The market for players seemed to freeze and leave Tenderpaws out in the cold. Down to his last few coins he went to drown his sorrows at a seedy tavern. Upon approach he saw something outside and his little heart skipped a beat.

“WANTED: TENDERPAWS

ESCAPED SLAVE AND PROPERTY OF THE MASTERS OF STUMPTOWN

10,000 GOLD COIN BOUNTY, DEAD OR ALIVE”

He knew running wouldn’t keep him alive much longer. He needed sanctuary. Throughout his travels he had heard of a team owned by a shadowy figure with a bounty on his own head.  Tenderpaws wasnt even sure the Pied Piper was real, but he knew the team partly made of former rat slaves said to be owned by the Pied Piper did exist. He had seen information on them during his training and counseling sessions with Coach Magoo. “Hamelin Renegades” he remembered them called from the standings printed in Magoo’s office.

Perhaps he would be murdered or sold back into slavery by this shadowy figure, but perhaps a team of former slaves, owned by a man with a bounty on his head might be the only chance at sympathy Tenderpaws had. Either way he knew it was a risk he had to take. So he gathered up his few belongings and headed for the stadium at the Weser Pipes of the Town of Hamelin and hoped when he got there the Pied Piper could relate to his plight as a man with a bounty. A tryout, a job, and protection is what Tenderpaws sought and he had nothing to lose in pursuit of it. . . .
