League Drops Under Utilized Options

WEDNESDAY – In a sweeping move, the League office announced this morning that it would be dropping Health Insurance and Minor League Teams from the suite of options available to teams.

“Oddly enough, we just don’t have that many coaches concerned with player health,” commented League Commissioner Preach. “Coaches treat their players as expendable and have little concern for their overall health and longevity.”

Sources cite that less that one percent of the league has ever utilized the Player Health Insurance, instead the trend is to utilize a player until they are no longer useful and then release them from the team, securing other less “broken” players.

“It’s unconscionable really,” stated Preach “We have players giving their all on the pitch and teams using them as diner napkins, only suitable for a short duration. We believe this move will place a greater emphasis on player health and make for a more medically fit and sound league all around.”

With the Player Health Insurance program now defunct, the league will look to other methods of ensuring player health.

The Blitz League followed this news by announcing the establishment of an official Injured Reserve rule:

Injured Reserve

After the first game of a season, a team can place up to 3 players on the Injured Reserve (“IR”) in a given season. A player placed on the IR is immediately removed from the team roster in game. This player is retained by the team (the team did pay their full salary at the beginning of the season). A player on the IR will see the doctor at the end of the season with a +1 to the roll.

If the player is cured of all their injuries, the team can:

  • Return the player to their active team roster for the full salary price (IR players are NOT eligible for a signing bonus but retain all SPP gained up until being placed on the IR)
  • Drop the player to Free Agency

If the player is not cured of all their injuries, the team can:

  • Retain the player on the IR for 1/2 of their normal salary for another season
  • Return the player to their active team roster for the full salary price (IR players are NOT eligible for a signing bonus but retain all SPP gained up until being placed on the IR)
  • Drop the player to Free Agency

The League also announced this morning that they will be doing away with the Minor League Team program.

“Sadly, it’s under utilized.” commented Preach.

Teams will be refunded 50% of their costs before their Minor League Team is dismantled.
